Our board-certified physicians, Dr. Jeffrey Caren and Dr. Mark Urman are proud to have a cardiology practice dedicated to excellence and compassion. They work closely with their patients’ other doctors to provide coordinated high-quality care in a caring and comfortable environment. In addition, they are partners and work closely together. Thus, if your primary cardiologist is not immediately available, the other doctor has access to the patient chart and will make sure that the patient’s urgent cardiac situation is taken care of. A patient of our practice can be certain that his/her cardiac care and well-being are the concern and responsibility of both doctors who work as a team with each other and any other doctors involved in a patient’s care. In fact, reports of cardiac testing performed in our offices can be shared with the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center clinical web viewing system when necessary to allow other physicians caring for a patient to have immediate access to important cardiac test results (and of course, always with appropriate security to protect your privacy).
In addition to reading the latest cardiac scientific journals and literature, Drs. Caren and Urman, both regularly attend and participate in lectures and continuing cardiac education which allows them to be up-to-date on the latest in cardiac diagnostic and therapeutic care and techniques. Both of our doctors are on the attending staff of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The doctors do not consult on patients at any other hospital or medical facility. While our doctors are often providing second-opinions themselves, if, at any time, you would like a second formal opinion regarding your condition, please do not hesitate to ask. We will offer you the names of competent cardiologists in your area and furnish them with our records.

In addition to Drs. Caren and Urman providing cardiac consultative evaluation and care, our offices offer a full spectrum of non-invasive diagnostic cardiac testing (please see Services for details). We employ dedicated staff to perform these tests all business days of the week (with occasional Saturday hours for nuclear stress tests) for your convenience. Testing is performed in our offices by very experienced and certified technicians. For higher-level diagnostic testing or invasive procedures, the doctors use the world-class facilities right near by. While affording our patients the latest in technology for excellent cardiac care, treating each patient with respect, kindness and compassion is still the foremost goal.
While many cardiac conditions do require invasive diagnostic testing, interventional procedures or surgeries, Drs. Caren and Urman will always make clear all alternative options when appropriate. When a cardiac condition can be handled with non-invasive options with as good of an expected outcome, they will advise so. If a patient’s condition would be better treated with invasive or surgical interventions, they will be the first to say so and refer the patient to the best cardiac sub-specialist available. The goal simply is to guide each patient to the best option for that individual based on medical indications and patient preference. Their offices are designed and decorated to help relax visitors in warm and calming surroundings. Visiting the doctor does not have to be a cold, clinical or frightening experience. Drs. Caren and Urman and their staff strive for personalized care with every patient. Â

In order to deliver the highest level of personalized cardiac care, our goal is to keep our fees reasonable and fair, but to discontinue our association and contracts with most for-profit managed care insurance companies. We believe that our only "contract" should ideally be with the patient so that there are no potential conflicts-of-interest when doctors are contracted with medical insurance companies. Managed care plans (both HMO's and lately PPO's as well) often limit the scope and complexity of medical care. Managed care office environments typically provide a more abbreviated medical experience, during which essential concerns and questions may be overlooked, and the full range of treatments may not be considered as options. While HMO plans restrict reimbursement to care with in-network physicians, PPO plans (and some POS or point-of-service options with HMO's) usually offer out-of-network benefits that will partially reimburse patients to see the doctor of their choice.
Generally, payment in full will be due at the time of service (for more expensive testing, arrangements for a deposit and payment plan are available). However, as a courtesy, COR Medical Group will submit claims to your insurance company. We will do everything we can to maximize patients' insurance benefits, and encourage patients to communicate with our staff and physicians if concerns arise.
