Three Signs of Cardiovascular Disease to Watch Out For

Cardiovascular disease is a generic term that refers to medical conditions associated with the heart, such as heart failure, artery disease, angina, congenital cardiac defects, cardiac irregularities and arrhythmias. Being aware of the signs of cardiovascular disease is key to preserving your cardiac health. When you are well-informed about the signs of cardiovascular diseases, you are better disposed to seek immediate medical assistance in the event that you or someone close to you, experiences the same. This could make all the difference between life and death in many cases.

Signs of Cardiovascular Disease

  • Heart attack: A heart attack occurs when the blood circulation in the cardiac system is stopped, which in turn causes the cardiac muscles to die. Symptoms of heart attack include discomfort or pain in the chest, and discomfort in the upper body. Dizziness and shortness of breath are also experienced during a heart attack. Women have a greater tendency to experience nausea during a heart attack, while men are more prone to break into a cold sweat.
  • Stroke: A stroke occurs when the rupture of a blood vessel cuts off the supply of blood to the brain. This immediately affects the brain cells and in turn bodily functions. Signs of a stroke include slurring of speech or blurred vision. Individuals may feel dizzy, and experience a headache. Stroke may also cause just one side of the body to go completely numb in individuals.
  • Cardiac arrest: This is a condition where the heart ceases to beat instantly. It predominantly occurs in individuals with coronary artery disease. Since the blood supply to the body is cut off during a cardiac arrest, it causes the person to feel dizzy. The person then collapses or faints instantly. A racing heartbeat is also one of the signs of a cardiac arrest.
