Jeffrey F. Caren, MD has been in practice since 1978. He is an Attending Physician in the Division of Cardiology at The Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute. He is a past Vice Clinical Chief of Medicine, Cedars-Sinai Medical Staff and has served numerous times in the Cardiology and Department of Medicine Performance Improvement Committees as well as the Medical Executive Committee at Cedars-Sinai. He provides primary and consultative cardiology care. His main interest is preventive cardiology and the treatment of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure and cardiac rhythm abnormalities.

Dr. Caren is a life-long California resident. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in philosophy and earned a MD degree at University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. He published extensively and earned the Deans Prize in Research. After serving in the US Army Medical Corp as a major, he completed a cardiology fellowship at the UCLA-West Los Angeles Veteran’s Medical Center.

Dr. Caren is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Caren is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at U.C.L.A. He has taught medical students continuously for more than 25 years.

Dr. Caren is recognized as one of the top cardiologists in Los Angeles by his peers having been named to several Southern California Super Doctors® editions of Los Angeles Magazine, the U.S. News & World Report Top Doctors list as well as Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors™ list.

Dr. Caren has served as Chief of Medicine and Chief of Critical Care in two Los Angeles community hospitals. He has maintained offices in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Office Towers for more than 30 years and was one of the first tenants. COR Medical Group has a rich heritage in the history of cardiology in that Dr. Caren worked with Dr. Morris Wilburne, a private cardiologist who first proposed the concept of a Coronary Care Unit (CCU) in 1961 when he was at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.1,2 When he retired, Dr. Wilburne then entrusted his private practice to Dr. Caren.

Dr Caren is an avid photographer. His photographs are displayed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the Cedars Medical Towers and of course our office. They have appeared in stage productions and film. He also has received national attention for his famous pharmaceutical pen collection and was featured on the ABC World News and the front page of the New York Times. A portion of Dr. Caren’s pharmaceutical pen collection was on display at the Museum of Capitalism exhibition in Jack London Square, Oakland California from June 17, 2017 through August 20, 2017

Note: Dr. Caren’s practice currently is at capacity and remains closed to new patients. However, his associate, Dr. Nayeri whom he works closely with, has a practice that remains open to new patients including without a direct referral.
